
Ambassador Enrico Granara was born in Asmara (Eritrea) in 1955, by Italian parents. After graduating in 1978 with a M.A. in Political Sciences (University of Padua), in 1980 he attended a post-graduate Course in Florence, for the admission to the Italian Diplomatic Service, which he joined in April 1983. After serving in the Economic Department of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he was posted to Maputo as Second Secretary for Development Aid (1984-1988). From March 1988 to March 1990 he served as Consul of Italy in Grenoble (France). He was then appointed Consul General of Italy to Jeddah (KSA), where he served until September 1992. His next assignment was back in Rome where he served as deputy head of the Middle East and North Africa desk in the Political Department. In June 1995 he was appointed Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission to the Italian Embassy in Mexico City. In August 1999 he was posted to Chicago as Consul General of Italy, a position he retained until June 2003. He resumed his duties in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the Italian Focal Point of the GFATM and of the OECD-DAC during the Italian Presidency of the European Union. From January 2004 to March 2005 he served as advisor for International and Diplomatic Affairs to the Cabinet Minister in charge of the Delivery of the Government's Program. He was then elected President of SNDMAE, the independent Union for the Italian Foreign Service (March 2005 to March 2008). On December 21, 2007 he was appointed the next Ambassador to Kuwait. Ambassador Granara has presented his credentials to the H.H. The Amir of Kuwait on April 28, 2008.
