Copenhagen, 23/07/08. The Embassy of Italy is proud to announce that the great school ship of the Italian Navy “Amerigo Vespucci”, after 14 years of absence, will be visiting Denmark, where she will moored at “Kvæsthusbroen” in the Harbour of Copenhagen from July 23rd – 28th 2008 (arrival and departure at 8.00 hours).
The impressive and elegant threemaster, whose designs were inspired by 19th Century battleships, has ever since its launch in 1931 served as a school ship for the cadets from the Italian Naval Academy.
During the training campaigns, there is a total crew of approximately 480 persons aboard.
Over the years, the Amerigo Vespucci has carried out more that 70 longer summer campaigns all over the world, as a floating ambassador for Italy and for Italian traditions and craftsmanship.
Everywhere, the ship has been received with great enthusiasm and we hope that also the visit to Copenhagen may become a joyous event and a symbol of the close friendship between our two countries.
During the stay in Copenhagen, the Amerigo Vespucci will be open to the public during the following intervals:
Thursday 24 July 10-12 and 15-19
Friday 25 July 10-17
Saturday 26 July 10-12 and 15-19
Sunday 27 July 14-19
TFurther, on July 24th, members of the Press may have a separate guided tour as well as an opportunity to conduct an interview with the Commander of the ship and possibly some of the cadets.
On Wednesday 23rd at 22.30, the visit will be celebrated with magnificent fireworks in the Harbour, sponsored by ENIT-Italian Tourist board and APT-Livorno Costa degli Etruschi.
During the stay, the ship will host a series of activites, including meetings with representatives of the Danish Navy, receptions and a cadet ball. On Sunday, a Catholic mass will be celebrated on board the ship.
As part of the associated promotional activities of the Italian business community, the famous design and illumination company iGuzzini will arrange a spectacular night time illumination of the beautiful vessel, while FIAT will present some of their latest models (including the new Cinquecento). Further, the tourist Authority APT-Livorno Costa degli Etruschi and ENIT (Italy’s official tourist bureau) will promote the vast offer of natural and cultural experiences along the Coast of the Etruscans in Tuscany.
