In 2004 Italian exports to Senegal were mainly : machinery and mechanical appliances ; furniture ; ceramic products ; vehicles and parts and accessories thereof ; plastics ; textiles ;  precious stones and metals ; pharmaceutical products ; paper and articles of paper pulp; mineral fuels; organic chemicals; food; aluminium and articles thereof; rubber and articles thereof; tanning and colouring extracts.

In the same year, the main imports from Senegal were: fishes, crustaceous, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates; vegetable oils; leathers; precious metals, cotton.

According to the ISTAT (Italian Institute for statistics) data, the bilateral economic flows between Italy and Senegal narrowed in 2004 if compared with the year 2003. Nevertheless, it should be considered that many Italian products are exported to Senegal via other countries, reducing the total amounts of the Italian official export to Senegal.

In the more recent years, the bilateral economic flows amounted for the following: (ISTAT data, in euros): Exports: 92.317.943 (2001); 121.235.845 (2002); 97.514.509 (2003); 79.380.077 (2004); 20.335.035 (2005 - last available period: march 2005). Imports: 91.582.940 (2001); 117.258.407 (2002); 101.863.246 (2003); 71.504.001 (2004); 14.810.522 (2005 –last available period: march 2005).

Considering the demand for the Italian products, which are highly appreciated, the possibilities to intensify the economic bilateral relations between Italy and Senegal are certainly positive.
