The bilateral relations between Italy and Qatar are excellent.
The State visit of H.H. Emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani to Italy in July 2005, contributed to strengthening them further, according to the Qatari policy of diversification of foreign partners beyond the special relationship with the USA.
In this framework, Italy's stance on the peace process in the Middle East and its continuous stress on the important ownership for reforms and democracy in the Arab world, are highly appreciated by the Qatari Authorities. A common vision has been registered in summer 2006 during the crisis between Israel and Lebanon. Qatar was indeed the only Arab country which decided to send troops to Lebanon to take part in the UNIFIL2 operation.
The support of Qatar for the candidates presented by Italy to international position during the past years has been constant and continuous.
