Guideline of the Italian Development Cooperation in Zimbabwe.
Historically the choices made by the Italian Cooperation in Zimbabwe mirrored the principal needs of the infrastructural development of the country concentrating mainly in the development of water resources and telecommunications. Particular attention has been given to programs which would give direct benefit to the populace such as assistance in the health sector.
In the field of water resources, Italy is well known for having built Kariba Dam and subsequently the Masvikadei, Osborne and Zhovhe dams. In the telecommunications sector Italy has provided a soft loan for the realization of the Masvingo Telephone Exchange and the digitalization of the Midlands Province.
Since the nineties up to the present, the Italian Cooperation has played a major role in the health sector of the country, both through bilateral programs, directly carried out by the Embassy or entrusted to others and multilateral programs, within the UN system.
