- Born in Rome. Graduated from the University of Rome, Faculty of Political Science, on 10 July 1979. Joined the Diplomatic Service in 1980 and served at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome until 1982.
- Consul in Hong Kong in 1982.
- First Secretary at the Italian Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York in 1986.
- Deputy Head of Mission in Islamabad, Pakistan, in 1989.
- Counsellor at the Press and Information Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1991.
- Counsellor at the Italian Permanent Representation to the United Nations in New York in 1994. Promoted to First Counsellor 1996. Member of the Italian Delegation to the UN Security Council in 1995-1996. In 1997 elected Chairman of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly.
- First Counsellor at the Italian Permanent Representation to the European Union, Bruxelles, in 1999.
- Minister Plenipotentiary in January 2004.
- From June 2003, UN Coordinator at the Directorate General for Multilateral Political Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Rome.
- Ambassador of Italy to Malaysia, December 2006.
