
Meetings
On the 29th October 2006 the Minister for International Commerce and European Policies, Hon. Emma Bonino, visited Bahrain and conducted a busy schedule of meetings. She had meetings with: the Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa; the Minister for Industry and Commerce, Dr. Hassan Fakhro; the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Abdul Aziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa; the King’s wife, Sheikha Sabeeka, who chairs the Supreme Council of Women; the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry management and a large group of Bahraini and Italian entrepreneurs. On this occasion Hon. Bonino, as a sign of solidarity and support, also met at the local United Nations representative’s office, several Bahraini women candidates to the Council of Representatives’ elections which took place in two ballots on 25th November and 2nd December 2006.
From the 24th to the 26th April 2007 the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Ugo Intini made an official visit to Bahrain meeting the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Mohammed al Khalifa, the Minister for Defence, Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister for Industry and Commerce Dr. Hassan Fakhro, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs Shaikh Abdul Aziz bin Mubarak Al Khalifa and Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Heritage, Sheikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa.
On the 12th September 2007 the Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Heritage, Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khlifa, made a short visit to Rome, where she met the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Ugo Intini and attended a business lunch with representatives of different public and private Italian institutions involved in the fields of art, cinema, television, opera, archeology and Italian gastronomy. Shaikha Mai also briefly visited the art collection of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On the 12th October 2007 the Assistant Undersecretary for Cultural Heritage, Shaikha Mai bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, participated as speaker in a Round Table organised in Venice by the City’s Assessorship for Culture. The theme of the Round Table was the dialogue between the western and the Islamic world, and it was attended by renowned Italian researchers.
