Economic cooperation
In the last four years, the commercial exchanges between Italy and Cyprus have reported continuous and important improvements.
Italy has reinforced its role acting as the second commercial partner for Cyprus detaining a market share which has increased in this period from 8.82% to beyond 11%, as shown by the figures of the current year.
In addition, with the accession of Cyprus into the European Union, which took place in May 2004, this has promoted it to act as a “bridge” between Italy and several Middle-East countries. In fact, Cyprus boasts several contacts and affinities with countries located on the South Eastern coast of the Mediterranean.
Furthermore, joint-ventures started up both by Italian and Cypriot companies have been very successful. In the last year, further important agreements concerning Investment’s protection, Environment, Navigation and petrol provisions have been made by the two countries.
