The Diplomatic presence of Italy in Iran dates back to 1886: a long history of conciliatory relations along with political, economical and cultural exchanges.

Today the Italian Embassy has the possession of two historical buildings and gardens of oldest in Tehran and Shemiran. The first property embodies the Chancery offices and it is located at N. 81 Neauphle-le-Chateau Ave. The other property is the Residence of Italy which is located at N. 183 Farmanieh, Dr. Lavasani Ave.

In the second half of the Qajar dynasty both complexes including the gardens were possessed by two Old Iranian families The origins of these two complexes goes back to Naser al-Din Shah’s reign, who was the fourth King of Qajar dynasty from 1848 to 1896. The pattern used in both gardens is a reminder of Iranian sense of garden (bagh) in the Qajar period.
